Our Approach
Natural Environments provides full-service landscape design, installation and maintenance services in Lake Zurich and surrounding areas. Led by Robert C. Boyce, Registered Landscape Architect, our work is based on decades of hands-on experience and a deep understanding of Midwest and Illinois landscapes.

We design landscapes that work with your home, site conditions and surrounding environment. Each plan is tailored to your property, incorporating native and regionally appropriate plants, functional layout and long-term sustainability.

Planting & Installation
Our planting work includes annuals and perennials, native and pollinator plants, trees and shrubs, and vegetable gardens, plus sod and seeding, mulching and compost installation. Each planting is selected and placed with care, based on the conditions of your property and how you want to use your space.
We take a hands-on approach to every project, with a strong understanding of what grows well in Midwest conditions. Proper plant selection, placement and installation are key to long-term plant health and success, allowing your landscape to grow in naturally and perform well over time.
Custom Stonework
Our custom stonework projects include patios, paths, retaining walls, driveways, ponds, shoreline work and water features. Each project is designed to fit the space and work naturally within the surrounding landscape.
We use natural stone to create features that are both functional and visually integrated with your property. Some projects involve carefully cut stone, while others are shaped and fitted by hand, creating a more natural, mosaic-like appearance. The approach depends on the design and the site.
We also use concrete pavers and block systems where a more structured or traditional look is desired. Material selection is based on the needs of the project and the preferences of the client.

Natural Areas & Native Plantings
We design and install natural areas using native and regionally appropriate plants that are well suited to Illinois and Midwest environments. These often include prairie, woodland, wetland and shoreline plantings, each tailored to the conditions of your site.
We work with homeowners, associations, municipalities, organizations, park districts, forest preserve districts and more on projects of all sizes.
Projects can range from a single pollinator planting to transforming part or all of your yard into a sustainable, native habitat. Native plantings can also be integrated into existing landscapes, enhancing what is already there. Each space is designed to fit how you use your property while working with the natural conditions of the site.
